After all the comments on the last video asking how far the little Dumbleton could be pushed, I went back to the bench and started experimenting.

It turns out this tiny LM386 amp can actually do quite a lot with just a few simple mods.

In the new video <<Watch here>> I try 5 upgrades that really change how the circuit behaves, from adding a proper gain control and bright switch, to turning the whole thing into a ridiculously hot preamp you can run into a real amp.

If you’re building a Dumbleton yourself, this should give you a few fun directions to experiment with.

The new video just went live. <<Check it out>>

In this one I build a tiny 1/4 watt LM386 amp I’ve been experimenting with, I’m calling it The Dumbleton™

It’s ridiculously simple, costs about $5 in parts, and somehow manages to sound far better than it has any right to.

I also do a quick comparison against a proper Dumble-style amp just for fun.

If you want the schematic (including MODS), I’ve put it up in the site shop, and Workbench members get it free along with an extra "Closer Look" video

I also added a bunch of extra mod ideas to the schematic that aren’t in the video if you feel like experimenting.

As usual, thank you so much for your support, cheers!

A Fender DeVille from the recent Iggy Pop NZ tour just came through the workshop.

I really enjoyed working on this amp and tracing through the issue!

I filmed the repair process, and the video is now up for Workbench members.

Thanks Team!
